Course Description

BU8341 Practical Ethics - Thinking about Right & Wrong

Acad Unit: 3
Pre-requisite: NIL

Course Description:

Practical Ethics is a course for students who want to make sense of the idea of right and wrong in a way that is informed by a firm introduction to the main ideas of widely influential ethical theories. It is an introductory course intended to provide a breath of vision and understanding that will stand our students in good stead should they decide to pursue deeper studies in any particular area of ethics and as a basis for thinking their way around the concrete moral challenges of modern business and life. It is a participation intensive course for students who welcome informed critical discussion based on required readings of extracts from the primary writings of the philosophers under study. Students should be prepared to undertake this. It is assessed 100% by coursework: class participation, presentations, a mid-term quiz and a written assignment.
