Zafar A MOMIN

Biography

Dr. Momin has over 27 years of global leadership experience in strategy consulting as a Senior Partner and Managing Director at L.E.K. Consulting, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and A.T. Kearney, and in the industry as the Executive Vice President/COO at a multi-billion-dollar family-owned conglomerate and various management roles at United Technologies Corporation and General Motors Corporation.

 

At BCG, Zafar led the Industrial Goods Practice for the Asia Pacific and was a member of its the Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia leadership teams. He was also the pioneering partner who established BCG's presence in the Middle East and its offices in the UAE. Before BCG, Zafar was the head of A.T. Kearney's Asian Automotive Practice and a Southeast Asian leadership team member. At L.E.K. Consulting, Zafar was the head of Southeast Asia.

 

For the past ten years, Zafar also has been managing his own investment fund. He has also served on the boards of SGX publicly-listed companies, non-profits, and private equity funds. He is currently an independent non-executive board director of Petronas Chemicals Group, listed on the KLSE.

 

Prof Momin has been teaching MBA electives related to strategy, strategic decision-making, and strategy implementation for the past ten years as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the College of Business at Nanyang Technological University. Given his extensive experience and background in these areas, Prof Momin is regarded as an Asia expert on the automotive industry, mobility, and asset-intensive industrial enterprises.

 

Dr. Momin's research interests coincide with his career experience in strategic management, strategy implementation, and business transformation. His doctoral work focused on the identification of middle-manager competencies for leading successful strategy execution. He is also interested in cross-disciplinary research topics related to building successful businesses in emerging markets and applying technology for creating more efficient enterprises.

 

Prof Momin received his Bachelor and Master in Mechanical Engineering from Pune and Purdue University, respectively, an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, and his Ph.D. in Business (General Management) from Singapore Management University.

Research Interests
  • Dr. Momin's career experience coincides with his research interests in the areas of strategic management, strategy implementation and business transformation. His doctoral work focused on managerial competencies for leading successful strategy execution. He is also interested in cross-disciplinary research topics related to building successful businesses in emerging markets and the application of technology to building more efficient enterprises.
