BF2213 Introduction to Compliance

Course Description:

This course aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the role of compliance in financial institutions and introduce students to the issues of financial crimes such as anti-money laundering (AML). Course topics include understanding the financial services sector, the role of compliance within financial institutions, the financial regulatory environment, compliance risks, anti-money laundering risks, and the importance of well-designed and effective control mechanisms. By the end of the course, students would have acquired sufficient knowledge to understand and appreciate what a compliance officer within a financial institution does. Students should be able to analyze the various compliance risks and vulnerabilities faced by a financial institution and also design effective controls. Students who have done well in the course can also be certified by the Institute of Banking and Finance (IBF) for their Level 1 Compliance Standards.
