I was originally attracted to the opportunity to study abroad at NTU because of its unique position in SE-Asia and the expectation that studying there would give me a glimpse into a number of SE-Asian cultures due to the city-state’s uniquely diverse makeup. The experience certainly held up to that expectation at every pass. In classes, you will find yourself working together with Singaporean students, as well as immigrants and international students from across SE-Asia and beyond - while you will inevitably run into a cultural snafu, it will enrich the experience immensely.

The slate of courses offered at NTU offered a unique perspective on subjects already present at home, like supply chain management and organizational governance, where US examples may often be used, but are always evaluated in a different context at home. Courses not available at home institutions, like the Life Science Bootcamp supplement the experience by drawing on the unique business areas of Singapore.

Outside of the classroom, studying in Singapore offered the unique opportunity to visit countries and cultures in the region; for those who are adventurous enough to hop on an hour or so plane ride, you can find yourself surrounded by Burmese temples, Borneo rainforests, on the rim of a volcano, or visiting an elephant sanctuary, all in a weekend trip. Along the way, the friendliness of the SE-Asian people is constantly apparent - NTU students, Singaporean acquaintances, and folks met in international destinations will be contacts for life.
