Trimester 2 (2013/2014)

Studying abroad at Nanyang Technological University was a fantastic experience. I took three classes - Green Trading and Emissions Trading for Managers, Life Sciences: A Business Perspective, and Corporate Governance and Ethics. Due to the diversified nationalities and background of the students, I was able to obtain different perspectives of doing business especially in Asia.

Singapore is a very cosmopolitan city with people coming from all around the world. It is one of the largest financial hubs in the world, hence providing a good platform for networking with financial professionals. As I'm personally interested in investment management, I used this opportunity to write a research paper comparing how Asian companies are analyzed in the West (New York and London) versus in Asia (Singapore and Hong Kong), the pros and cons of each approach, and the key takeaways a Western analyst covering Asian companies should be aware of.

I took advantage of Singapore as a travel hub and spent a few days exploring Angkor Wat in Cambodia, as well as other neighbouring countries such as Thailand and Myanmar. There are also interesting places to visit within Singapore, such as the National Museum, eating at Singapore's many ethnic neighborhoods, and admiring the Singapore skyline from 63 stories up at One Raffles Place, Singapore's tallest building.
